Centro Sperimentale del Mobile, acting on behalf of Consorzio Casa Toscana, organised two symposia for the presentation of the Tuscan furniture production sector during February 2008.
The ICE office (ITC - Italian Trade Commission) of Mumbai and several local operators contributed to the organisation of the symposia, which were held in the cities of Mumbai (5 February) and Bangalore (7 February). The meetings were an important moment for the presentation not only of the Tuscan production system, but also for the LIF - Living Italian Furniture pilot project, the result of the research into the Indian market promoted by Toscana Promozione / Tuscany Region in recent years.
LIF comprises 12 companies, with complementary types of production and styles, which have been operating on the Indian furniture market since October 2007, by means of a sales network built up through the coordination of CSM and Consorzio Casa Toscana. The group has two aims: entry into the contract / hospitality market and into the residential market, by building up relationships with operators in the sector, particularly architects, designers and retailers.
The interventions during the symposia gave political/economic parties the opportunity to speak during the first phase, including the ICE (ITC), Tuscany Region/Toscana Promozione. This was followed by the operational part, featuring Florence University - Faculty of Industrial Design, with a presentation of the Tuscan system, paying particular attention to the issue of Tuscan art forms, design and landscape. Lastly, Consorzio Casa Toscana presented an introductory video of the group of 12 companies. Between the showing of the two videos, one of the central interventions of the symposium took place, the speaker in question being Roberto Lazzeroni, the internationally famous Tuscan designer who has cooperated and continues to work with numerous companies in our region.
The following Tuscan companies participated directly in the mission from 2 to 9 February, attending the two symposia:
Matrix International - Poggibonsi (Si) (LIF group); Baga srl - Florence (LIF group); Pitti srl - Florence (LIF group); Bardi spa - Quarrata (PT) (LIF group); Arredamenti San Marco - Poggibonsi (SI) (LIF group); Bucalossi Nello arreda - Certaldo (FI)
A total of over 250 operators in the sector took part in the symposia and the companies were able to meet all the most significant representatives of the sector in India in a single venue, first in Mumbai and then in Bangalore. Some of them also had the chance to use the days available between one symposium and the next to visit a selection of architectural / interior design studios and points of sale, thanks to a series of appointments made by our Indian contacts.
The next goal of the LIF group is the opening of a showroom in Bangalore, one of the key areas of the Southern Indian market, where the companies involved in the project have already seen the first results of their commercial presence. The presence of products in the areas of the country currently considered to be most strategic enables operators in the sector and final consumers to appreciate the quality and guarantees the companies widespread visibility on the market, both as individuals and as the group brand.
